And they found a servant from among Our servants to whom we had given mercy from us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge. (Quran: Al-Kahf: 85)

Dua sisi nikmat

Semu, semu, s.e.m.u, ya semu.

Integrity: Beyond The Ego

ImageThis morning, I got a new thing to learn which is mood-swing exposure on top level executives.

When we were trying to enter the room of M&A class, suddenly at the very first step we entered the room a voice of our lecturer was heard as “you are not allowed to as late for an hour.” In response, we closed the door, walked away, and wondering what had been going on.

Speaking about our lecturer background, he has devoted his life in financial services industry for decades and getting his PhD degree with Summa-Cumlaude status. At recent years, he was assigned as CEO of an Indonesian public company in multi-finance sectors. Really a great talent!

About few weeks back then, our lecturer gave such policy that although we come late, it’s still permissible to join the class. It contradicts with what had he said few minutes ago. Well, so far, in our hypothesis, it could be explained by several things.

First factor, the weather condition last night was not so supporting for having intelligence-stimulating activities. Besides weather, the class started with about around 25% of total students. Speaking about academic agenda, today class should have been for HBR study case discussion.

Derived from these disturbance factor, it is believed that mood-swing could fluctuate and destroy the integrity value of a person.

As to be a better being, let’s manage our emotions wisely to be beyond the ego.

Thomas Jefferson, American monetary-hero along human history! No wonder he was shaped into such a person, thanks to Quran, The Divine Book.

Source: Daily Beast Source: Daily Beast

I am very happy to see an interesting new book written by Denise Spellberg, associate professor of history and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

Spellberg’s book, titled Thomas Jefferson’s Qur’an: Islam and the Founders and touched upon in this Daily Beast article, seeks to understand the role of Islam in the early American struggle to protect religious liberty by asking how Muslims and Islam fit into eighteenth-century Americans’ models of religious freedom.

She looks specifically to Thomas Jefferson’s Qur’an as a symbol of the founding fathers’ respect for religious freedom and liberty.

According to the Daily Beast, Spellberg’s thesis is that, “contrary to those today who would dismiss Islam and Muslims as essentially and irretrievably alien to the American experiment and its religious mix, key figures in the era of the nation’s founding argued that that American church-state calculus both could and…

1435, this year is a special year for me personally in particular context of Hijrah (moving). Berikut point2 besar nya, check it out!

Besides that basic need, Allah ngasih mobile facility, a private ride yang gw kasih nama ‘adiyat.

This sort of community has taught me to be more human (curhat dikit).

Can’t wait for the next bunches of surprises Allah would give along the year. 🙂

WRITTEN BY MICHAEL REISS (GUEST AUTHOR) ON JULY 26, 2011.

Many economics textbooks include diagrams to show how money flows within an economy. The diagrams almost invariably show the different groups (banks, industry, government etc.) in fixed locations with the money flowing from one group to another. While these diagrams may be useful in some senses, they usually fail to convey some important characteristics of money flows.

In this section I will present an unconventional way of thinking about the flow of money. Imagine the act of money being used to purchase a good or service (hereafter given the single label “good” for simplicity) to be akin to two people crossing the road in opposite directions. Imagine the money starting out on the left-hand side of the road and the good being purchased starting out on the right. The exchange occurs when the money passes the good heading in the opposite direction. The money and the good will always cross in pairs at the same time. Now imagine this on a larger scale. You could visualise all the transfers of money for goods in the entire economy being carried out on a long stretch of road, with all the money that exists lined up on the left-hand side and all the items ready for sale lined up on the right. You could now observe a series of paired-up “swaps” of money for goods occurring along the road.

One apparent problem with this visualisation is that, as stated so far, all the money that exists would end up on the right-hand side of the road and no money would be left for any further purchasing. We can fix this by simply imagining some underpass whereby money can instantly travel from the right-hand side of the road back to the left, so that all the money that exists is always available to be used for purchasing.

The visualisation is far from complete, but it is useful to pause and consider what we have so far. See Figure 1.

Figure 1. A (too) simple model of money flows.

This simple mental model appears to be thebasis of many theories about money flows and inflation. For example, the diagram makes it clear that the flow of money mirrors the flow of goods. This “mirroring” can be expressed mathematically in the equation of exchange (MV=PT) which you will see described in almost all economics textbooks. This equation states that the amount of money in the economy (M) times its rate of flow (V) equals the rate of sales of goods (T) multiplied by the average price of those goods (P).

Unfortunately this visualisation of money flows as described so far is slightly too simple. It has led to some serious errors and confusion.

A more correct model requires the inclusion of a variety of additional money flows. This risks making the diagram rather complex, so for clarity the goods flowing from right to left are not shown.  Read the rest of this entry »
